I survived one week of the whole30!
In fact today is #Day9 whoop whoop. So far it’s been interesting. The last post I wrote, I shared my shopping list for that week and what I was planning on making and that’s pretty much all I ate that week.
I worked from the office all of last week which always leaves me feeling like snacking- luckily I was armed with snacks, mostly oranges which I have been loving. I also work with foodies so I missed being able to share in the social aspect of sharing food and eating together if that makes sense. Womp womp.
My mum and brother spent the weekend with me; on Sunday morning I made Yam and egg sauce and nobody noticed the missing maggi. Later on Sunday I went to a birthday party and mahn, I almost wish I hadn’t. I had RSVP’d way before I decided to do the whole 30 and didn’t think I should cancel just because… The host was also someone I like and you know, you celebrate with people you like… So I went.
Mehn, I need to revise my strategy for attending events, people kept asking me why I wasn’t eating which put me on edge, it was really annoying. Someone even said to me “Why did you even bother coming to this party” no joke… Nigerians and tact… The host knew about whole30 and all but that wasn’t enough, I just felt like a party pooper, perhaps it would have been better if I lied and said I was fasting.
There was sooooo much good food, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a house party that had so much variety- from fried rice, noodles, chicken, waffles, roast potatoes to pounded yam and egusi (which I first got excited about then remembered maggi) meeeeehn, hats off to me for restraint. Side note, fruit juices are allowed, but all my friends say they don’t trust chivita’s “100% juice” what do you think? I didn’t drink it. I got back home feeling deflated and just ate some yam.
Next weekend is one of my closest friend’s introduction, I don’t know how I will deal, I might relax with the MSG rule and eat amala or pounded yam… cos otherwise idk how I’ll survive the day. Any advice for me?
Otherwise, here’s my plan for this week
I had my mums car so went to about 4 places to get all I wanted. lol. I went way over budget but I’m consoling myself with the thought that most of these things will go into next week, so my list will be much shorter.
This week’s shopping list
- Spring onions
- Green (Efo tete)
- Yam flour
- coconut oil
- smoked fish
So far I’ve made Okra which I ate alone twice and once with poundo, then I made yam and egg as I said above. Today for lunch at work i brought boiled plantains and a gizzard sauce, kinda a reconstructed gizdo. lol. It was so yummy. Breakfast tomorrow will be eggs with spinach and mushrooms- should I write a recipe?
I’m feeling reallllllly good. like I woke up at 5am this morning singing. Made breakfast, made lunch, packed it to go and made it into work before 8. Feeling that tiiiiiiiiigggger blood- I’m really thinking I want to eat like this forever— well kinda. I don’t miss rice at all, pasta only a little and I haven’t had a sugar craving in days!
I’ll update this post with pictures as the week unfolds, just wanted to get this out today.
